2003 Other Reunions
February 2003 - The Broncos - A great night – Jim Wheatley, Leo Freney, Peter Palmer, Ian Wood, Jim Kelly and Peter Cleary came for drinks before a Valentine dinner. The food was good and the place packed.
April 2003 - Rowing Shed Fund Rauser- It was a great and successful event raising around $18 000 for the Shed. The Hilton function room was packed, the food and drinks five star and the debate and entertainment was sparkling. Dela, Jim and John Kelly, Robert Ingham-Myers and Peter Palmer were there. It was John Kelly’s first reunion in some time and he says he is keen to become a regular.
June 2003 - NC Arts & Crafts Reunion - It was a great night but our numbers were down to Dela & Carmel, Jim & Sophie and John Kelly.
August 2003 - Broncos - We had a terrific evening and a great rollup - Leo Freney, John & Jim Kelly, Dallas Graham, Jim Barry, Peter Palmer, Adrian Crowe, Paul O'Sullivan, up from Sydney, & Bob Ingham-Myers who came & shouted a round before leaving for another function with his missus.
We adjourned from the Pokies Bar to the balcony at the Bistro, which we had to ourselves for the evening. The seafood buffet and the four or so bottles of wine were terrific. We finished up in the Alfy Langer Bar and Alf himself, Webkie and Berrigan joined us at the end of the evening.
October 2003 Tatt's Lunch - The Lunch well and truly lived up to expectations in attendance and the good time had by all. Despite a number of apologies the 18 strong roll-up included: Greg O’Brien, John Kaggelis, Peter Palmer, John Cloake, Dallas Graham, Peter Gavin, Jim & John Kelly, Tony Walsh, James Delahunty, Robert Ingham-Myers, Leo & Paul Freney, Adrian Crowe, Michael Purcell, Bill Greaves, Ramon Ruzzene, Daryl Hanly (Principal) Some got there early at 11.00am with the final stragglers leaving at around 8.00pm. John Kaggelis, Dela and Leo Freney found that they had separately been regularly "gone fishin" in the Gulf, either NT or Qld, for years and there was some talk of maybe getting together but at the other blokes spot.
Daryl Hanly (Principal) gave us a run down on the College and its vision for the future including the reintroduction of Primary classes at Nudgee. Since Nudgee discontinued Primary classes many Nudgee families had apparently electing to send their boys to Grammar or Churchie. Daryl viewed Nudgee Primary classes as essential to arrest this trend and to ensure the continued popularity of the College.
October 2003 NCOBA Tatt's Annual Dinner - Around 72, down on last year, but the Old Boys there had a terrific reunion. There were only 4 from Class of 1962 - Jim & John Kelly, Leo Freney and Garnett Kerr.
There were two groups present with major reunions celebrating their 50th and 5th years reunion. John Dalton, NCOBA President, said the Old Boys were concerned at the decline in attendance at Annual Dinners and were considering other option, including mixed dinners, to stimulate interest in future dinners.
