Our Book Update No 2 - July 2010

Welcome to our second update

The purpose of this second update is to let you know how we are progressing in our special project to produce a Class of 1962 book to commemorate the 50th anniversary of our final year at Nudgee.

We’re pleased to report that we’re on track on our journey to produce a commemorative book which will be launched at our 50th Anniversary Reunion in 2012.

The following is a small example of some of the stories coming forward. This contribution was part of an oral history from Kevin Kearney. If you’ve got a story that we can use, please get in touch with us.

“Col Markham was Herbie’s (Br. McKennairy’s) offside in maintaining the swimming pool.   One time Herbie got wind that some of the boys were going swimming outside of the allowed hours so he tells Jack to add a bit of extra chlorine to the pool.    Next day Herbie looks over the class, picks out those with red eyes, calls them aside and tells them that they are not to go swimming outside the normal times.”

What have we achieved so far?

Feedback Forms

We have received approximately forty Feedback Forms so far and we would like to thank those who have sent theirs in. For these guys, a draft copy of their entry in ‘Our Book’ will be enclosed with this Update. Suggestions on what you might now do will be enclosed with your draft copy. (This will mainly be to clarify what you have written.)

We appreciate that there are still a number of you who are in two minds as to what you should do with the Feedback form, or indeed whether you really want to be part of ‘Our Book’.

What we would like to say to you is this:-

·        The Feedback form was designed to assist you to gather your thoughts on what has happened to your life since Nudgee. If you’ve lost your copy and need another one, let us know.(Word doc. Format is available)
·        If you are finding it difficult to put your ‘life’ down in writing and would prefer to talk this through, then by all means give Jim or Bob a call and talk it through with them.
·        Your ‘life’ story will be typed up and a ‘draft’ copy will go to you for approval. Nothing will appear in ‘Our Book’ without your approval. We would like to mention that, in need, life ‘stories’ will be limited to a maximum of an A4 page. We want to write a book about the class NOT a book about individual people.
·        In a book such as this, it is important that we have as many and as diverse accounts of class mates lives as we can collect. This is NOT a competition to see who is the greatest. We are recording class history which will reflect the diversity of our Class.
·        The book will be completed - You were a member of the Class of 1962 – we would like you to have the opportunity of contributing to the life histories of this diverse group.
