Welcome to our first update

 Welcome to our first Our Book Update. Others will follow at regular intervals. The purpose of this update is to let you know how we are progressing in our special project to produce a Class of 1962 book to commemorate the 50th anniversary of our final year at Nudgee. We’re pleased to report that we’re up and running on this journey to produce a commemorative book which you and your family can appreciate and treasure for years to come.

What have we achieved so far?

Our first newsletter A newsletter went out in November 2009 letting you know that Jim Wheatley and Bob Nash had undertaken to co-ordinate the “Our Book’ project. We endeavoured to give you a brief overview of what was proposed with this project. As you can appreciate, it was early days! We mentioned that we needed contribution from three areas:- 1. The first is that of memories of events during your time at Nudgee 2. Secondly, we need information for the ‘What happened to them after Nudgee” section and provided a feedback form for this purpose 3. The third area is that of visual memories (photos, memorabilia etc) We are pleased to report that some of you have made contributions regarding the above. Unfortunately, a lot of you have not yet responded.

Feedback Form There may be some of you who feel that your contribution to the 40th Anniversary profiles should save you the need to complete the Feedback form. After giving much consideration to this issue we have come to the conclusion that the book deserves an updated account, in your words, of what has happened to you since leaving Nudgee. For consistency of presentation throughout the book, headings and dot points should be avoided. Keep it conversational by replying to the questions on the feedback form. This is a critical part of the book since it will determine the number of pages available for the other chapters. If you tell us about yourself it will be included, but note however that should we be required to make any minor changes, for presentation purposes, to the feedback information you provide, we undertake to seek your confirmation to these changes. Our reasons for needing your Feedback form are outlined in the ‘Outline of Our Book’ section of this Update.

Cost of the book. This will be determined after we have determined the production costs. 

Outline of Our Book

The following will give you some idea of what the contents of Our Book will be. Again, we must remind you that it is still early days and there could be some changes made as we progress further with Our Book.

1. Introduction Before we can tell the story of the Class of 1962 we need to provide a brief history of Nudgee College. This introductory chapter will outline the College from its formation up until 1962.

2.The Classes This chapter will include all the class photos plus a Nominal Roll of the Class of 1962. The class roll will include- Name / Years at Nudgee / Home town

3. Nudgee Days – Nudgee Junior

4.Nudgee Days – Scholarship-Sub Junior-Junior (1958/60)

5. Nudgee Days – Sub Senior – Senior (1961/62) The above three chapters will include (for each chapter)- Memories / Photos (other than class photos)/ Memorabilia / class achievements in sport, cadets etc / Our Teachers

6. After Nudgee Reports on our reunions and photos of reunions

7. Our Times This chapter will provide a reflection on the past fifty years. There were no computers, automatic teller machines, electric trains etc back in 1962.

8. What happened to them Here we will record the events of your life in your own words. This information will be taken from the feedback form that you complete and send into us. The feedback form has a dual purpose: • To provide us with updated contact information • To allow you to ‘tell us a bit about yourself’ in the format we have setup in the feedback form. Unfortunately the information you provided for the 40th Anniversary profiles, whilst it may have suited the purpose at that time, is not up to date and is not suitable for the purpose we have in mind for this chapter.

Time Line 2010-12
This book is a major undertaking and we will need to adhere to certain milestones along the way to make sure that the finished product is available on time. The following is a brief outline of our project plan and time frames.
2009.
September – October  Deciding on methodology for the preparation of the book.
 November  Mail out to classmates inviting participation in the ‘Our book’ project.  November. Following up on the mail out at the Christmas function.
2009 – 2010.
October 2009 – July 2010. Sourcing and collecting memories, ‘What happened after Nudgee’ feedback statements and memorabilia. Every offering to be accepted.
2010 August – October - Chapters to be fleshed out.
November – December- Possible publishers to be approached.
2011.
January - Obtain quotes for cost of publication.....Publisher selected.
September - Proof reading and preparation of an index.
December. To printers. 2012. April. - Book printing completed and in-hand.
July. - Launch of book.
As you can see there is a lot to be done. We will need to stick to this plan if we want to be sure that when July 2012 comes around we have a book we can be proud of. This is an example only and may not be the final cover design

As you can see from our Time Line we are in the ‘sourcing and collecting’ mode. This means that we are looking for your Feedback Forms / Photos / Memories & Memorabilia. If you haven’t already done so, please complete that Feedback Form now. Get it in the mail to Jim, then you can sit back knowing that you have made your contribution to Our Book. If you’ve misplaced your Feedback Form you can obtain another one by going to Our Book blog page (http://nc62book.blogspot.com/) click on the link ‘Feedback Form’, and download a copy for yourself. You wouldn’t want to be the only one who didn’t contribute.
